After I unfortunately missed out to Christian, I decided to make at least something from the evening and arranged myself with Eun-Sun for dinner. We had planned nothing special, but because we find both hanok and mountains great we went as usual to Samcheongdong, my favorite neighborhood here. Around every corner a villa, a Hanok property or good restaurant, usually all three.

We found the restaurant where I've eaten in Korea the best. The exact location I do not know but it is on the road up to Samcheonggak in a curve, not to be overlooked.

The restaurant is - as in Korea are very common - named after the specialty of the house. In earthenware in lotus water pickled duck meat.

On the menu are only 5 dishes. 3 variants duck meat, once every three varieties, and a special preparation of a whole duck Korean herbs, but with 3 hours notice must be reserved.

We decided for the "All" version, which means three different varieties of duck meat. It should prove to be helpful that Eun-Sun came from the ballet and I had not eaten lunch, because everything is made of:

The side dishes were all in itself an unexpected experience. I had not eaten kimchi apart from the side dishes offered so far. Even the garnish with fresh spinach tasted different then dressed sharp, intense, crisp than usual

We had been wondering why rice costs extra, now we should learn it:
The rice came in the version with all sorts of delicious inside. Gingko nuts, Süßkartoffelstücke, Asian date, peas, red beans, ginseng, etc. were in the purple rice, which is colored by red beans so and get an even richer taste.

The restaurant is located at the end of Insadong-gil-o. You go through a gate and stands in a yard full of gravel and plants. The entrance is on the left side of the glass Traditional estate.

atmosphere The restaurant interior is open and inviting. It tries without much kitsch tradition and modernity to what works on the whole good. The decor is modern and minimalist.

selection and prices are on the menu includes soups, Stews and especially various meat dishes. While the meats are from 2 people and start from 8,000 won per person, you get a Yukgaejang (Spicy soup with beef strips) arranged for 6,000 won. Both are normal prices for the exquisite location and facilities.

Eating The beef stew was on the point, not too hot and not stale. The meat was tender, the deposit fresh and juicy. An absolute highlight was the supplements, which, although quantitatively rather sparse, but quality is an absolute treat. In addition to the Kimchi, which was so far right, it was marinated garlic cloves that had such a taste experience that you like more than 2 had eaten, but more can not stand the breath. There was also exceptionally good shoots.

Yori and I were after lunch so in a good mood that we decided not to visit a tea house. But instead of doing one on traditional, we took the next best thing since Yori and soon had to go.
. We landed in Dagyeonghyangsil
So, the "area of the slowly passing fragrance of tea" (For all who ask me why I want to learn Classical Chinese, SO).

Conclusion The restaurant is a family, a warm Ajumma an equally nice Ajeosshi and Halmeoni sitting at the family table and eats rice crackers and a grinning all the time. The whole in an old hanok house, but not as styled as in most restaurants in Insadong. Side dishes to the table bends, hot, delicious food and 10,000 won for two main courses, Insadong. What more could you want.
