Amadeus, Amadeus - Conclusion.
The day after. Hangover whether too little sleep, a good deal of exuberance and a long previous day with Austrian Music Convention and Amadeus. Somehow one is that way. I'm here recently to analyze the new Amadeus format had been tried and interviews on the topic. This has earned me criticism - in part because I was misunderstood. Now that the whole thing is over, we can draw a short, first summary.
The Amadeus has celebrated a kind of rebirth - and that was good. Of course it is and remains a music awards ceremony, their meaning and "coolness" is always only partially opens. But: The IFPI has shown courage. The "evil" major industry has been married by her horse down, took a look around, the reality is finally being recognized (declining record sales, other means of communication to the "Fan") and to dare to include a wide scene image on the stage. Why not!
That's not the first year terrific work - especially in the sense of audience, sponsorship revenue and media response: clear. That this experiment was as true as importantly, clear. In the long term can thus establish an authentic identity for this award. Something that simulate the awards in the last nine years attempting an international awards show, always wanting.
No one, international guests and prices yesterday also be addressed only partially - and rightly so. The most applause of the usual parlous state of "industry public" has raked in a band that would not have been awarded in the least a platform for such a performance: The Sorrow (by then also a prize in their "Metal" category dusting). Even our afternoon for the convention who traveled international guests have recognized that (they have all Fatima Spar & The Freedom Fries, and Bunny Lake Kreisky scribbled in their notebooks).
What the show with much to discuss what one still missing was a decent atmosphere (see "Industry people problem"). We have a small group to have developed an idea that I will propose to the men you: choose a slightly bigger location (although the MQ me well suited appeared) - and include not only the fans for voting, but also for the event: Each Nominated Band to take their most loyal fans 30-50 (must) - a perfect "price" for voting, a huge bonus for the atmosphere. I am sure that the exchange between metal, hip-hop and pop fans will ultimately contribute to a colorful frame can - and perhaps can build bridges to help overcome the existing, deep divisions between local scenes. An extra round of applause for recognizing this goes out to Kamp & Whizz Vienna, who were once the same brotherhood with Andreas Gabalier and a mash-up on stage staged - why not?
Fans will even be little angry if they miss the traditional slaughter at the buffet and the industry-standard alcohol disposal action (have to). If the "VIPs" halt. Apropos. This year gabs rumgereichtes finger food instead of a massive buffets SuperE idea to have economical. No scramble, but a little small staff was obviously available. And to go to those who insult the Amadeus whole year, then, flat drink for free and then he again scold, Why do ye look at that and not remain simply at home?
There are criticisms, of course. The already discussed - the details of the voting system for example. Or the fact that a lot of money from a completely non-transparent funds for social and cultural institutions in this event should flow to enable it. Things that are addressed later in this discussion, certainly, not to mention should remain and should allow for constructive development of this format. Today, however, should first of all this positive development and predominate overall impression.
The Amadeus had no chance - and used it. He is well on the way to be thoroughly honest, down to earth
-Austrian music event. No Glam, the there are not eh, no wrong size simulating pseudo-pop world, the market conditions here do not anyway. A small plantlets, of course. Let's hope that it will be a strong tree. There
Other treatments of this topic, it is not uninteresting of my esteemed colleagues Walter Gröbchen and Martin Blumenau - and an outside view of things from Christian Schachinger in the standard.
